Nascar:Daytona 500 2011
52
Beginner's luck?
Well, today was the official start of the Nascar season, with the Daytona 500 race taking place, history was made. Trevor Bayne became the youngest Nascar driver to ever win a Daytona 500, at the rip old age of 20 years old. This also marked his very first Sprint Cup win. There's only a handful of people who's first win just happened to be the Daytona 500. One of those other drivers being Michael Waltrip, who's first win came along with the sad reality of losing one of his closest friends, Dale Earnhardt.
It's been ten years since Earnhardt's passing, and today, he was remembered in a chilling moment of silence on lap three, to commemorate his number, and remember the man. Every hand in the stand, and the in field was raised, with three fingers held high, to show their faith in the man who drove the number three. It's truly hard to believe that ten years has passed since his death. The reactions from the fans makes it feel just like it happened yesterday.
Aside from the great victory for a young man starting out his career, and the remembrance of Earnhardt, there was actually a race taking place. Many of the top drivers and big choices for the win today were taken out of the race. Guys like Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, and yes, the "unstoppable" Jimmie Johnson all had bad luck today. One man that had a pretty good day til a wreck in the last laps of the race took his hopes away, was none other than Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Here's hoping that this year brings great racing action, and some more surprise winners!

I found myself enjoying the 2011 Daytona 500 so much, I even had to write a Hub about Trevor Bayne - he's the man!
